Port of London Authority (2)

  • Reference: 2025/4033
  • Question by: Hina Bokhari OBE
  • Meeting date: 20 November 2025
The PLA is a Trust Port with a constellation of stakeholders. It is supposed to have a care not just for boat operators but also for waterside communities. In both 2023 and 2024, nearly all of the PLA’s ‘stakeholder benefit’ went into its own employees’ wages, benefits and taxes, rather than into substantive green or community initiatives that are, in my view, effectively just greenwashed gestures. Do you agree that London's trust port (currently the PLA) should not be privatising the profits of running the UK’s premier river, while deflecting the problems and expenses of environmental oversight and enforcement to...

The recent Public Inquiry into the PLA’s Harbour Revision Order – about vessel emissions that undermine ULEZ, noise, the cruise ships, the extraordinary charges for balconies, the harms caused by party boats and RIBs, the damage to homes and wildlife from the wash of high-speed vessels, the PLA’s deflection of environmental responsibilities alongside a lack of accountability and transparency has raised concerns among many. Noting your role in relation to London’s environment and to the promotion of river transport: Are you aware of these revelations? Is there any thinking in progress about how to find a better, more effective, more...

Immigration Raids

  • Reference: 2025/4024
  • Question by: Gareth Roberts
  • Meeting date: 20 November 2025
I understand that US-style immigration raids are now taking place in London. Witnesses described to me how a man was pulled from his workplace at a hair salon in Camden, placed in a van and driven away. Aside from the person involved, this incident has shaken the community. People are very upset about what is taking place. Are you aware that such raids are taking place? If so, are you scrutinising how these raids are conducted? What protections are in place for the rights of those affected and how are you reassuring Londoners?
