About the event
City Hall’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony is delivered in partnership with the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) and The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) to commemorate the 6 million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust, and the millions more murdered under the Nazi persecution of other communities. We also remember where persecution led in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
The ceremony will link to HMDT’s theme ‘No Place for Prejudice’, that reflects on how prejudice is learned, reinforced, embedded in so many places: in culture, law, religion, education, community life and in social and leisure spaces, and excused as normal or inevitable.
The ceremony will include testimonials from survivors, poignant readings, reflections and the lighting of the memorial candle. A one minute silence will also be observed during the service.
