Key information

Date: Sunday 25 October 2026

Venue: Trafalgar Square, Westminster, London, WC2N 5DN, GB

Cost: Free

We are very sorry to announce that London’s Diwali On The Square celebrations this Sunday (25 October) have been cancelled following the recommendation of independent event health and safety experts.

With storms forecast on Saturday, the event health and safety leads have advised it would not be safe to carry out the build and set-up required to stage the event in Trafalgar Square on Sunday. The decision to cancel the event has been taken in line with their professional advice, with the safety of everyone involved the absolute priority.

This decision has not been taken lightly and we know it will be disappointing for everyone who was looking forward to the celebrations, as well as the volunteers who have put so much time, energy and care into preparing for this year’s event. However, the safety of Londoners and visitors must come first.

We are now considering other ways in which we can support people to celebrate Diwali in London this year.

About the event

Celebrate the Mayor of London's annual Diwali on the Square on Sunday 25 October 2026 at Trafalgar Square, right in the heart of London. The event runs from 1pm to 7pm, and best of all, it’s free – no need to book a ticket.

Diwali on the Square is open to everyone, bringing Londoners together for a joyful day of light, hope, and unity.

The day will be packed with exciting activities:

  • a colourful opening dance sequence with 200 dazzling dancers
  • a main stage showcasing music, dance, and performances from London’s Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities
  • family-friendly activities like children's activities, puppet shows, and dance workshops
  • a bustling market and food stalls offering tasty vegan and vegetarian treats.

It’s a fantastic day out for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to wishing you a happy Diwali!

“Preserving the Flame, Illuminating Tomorrow”

The Diwali in London Committee brings together organisations from across the UK to organise and deliver this annual celebration. Each year, one organisation takes the lead as the Chair Organisation. For 2026, this is the National Hindu Students’ Forum (UK) (NHSF UK).

Founded in 1991 by Hindu university students in London, NHSF (UK) exists to protect, preserve, practise and promote Hindu Dharma, creating spaces for young Hindus to explore their identity, build community and develop as future leaders and ambassadors.

With a vision of a peaceful and harmonious world based on Dharma, NHSF (UK) engages young Hindus across schools and universities through cultural celebrations, discussions and debates, sports, arts, meditation and selfless service (sewā).

This vision comes to life at Diwali on Trafalgar Square 2026, sharing the values of sewa, harmony and light with London’s diverse communities.

Come and explore the history of NHSF (UK), discover how students have kept Hindu traditions alive for 35 years and see how Diwali is celebrated by Hindu students and communities across the UK!

Step into the Culture Zone and immerse yourself in the soul of Diwali. Through captivating classical and folk dances, experience the rich tapestry of ancient India and the timeless tale of the Ramayan - the spiritual and cultural cornerstone of Diwali.

Here, our community and partner organisations come together to share the essence of Hindu culture - explaining the meanings behind our rituals, the significance of Diwali, and what it means to be a Hindu in the UK today.
