Responding to Public Order Pressure

  • Reference: 2025/3527
  • Question by: Marina Ahmad
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
In light of the increased number of public order events, does the Met have the resources it needs to meet this high demand?

Bus driving toilets (3)

  • Reference: 2025/3526
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
Thank you for your answer to my question 2025/2038, outlining how Transport for London (TfL) prioritises investment in bus driver toilets. You said: “The highest priority routes (priority one) are those without a toilet at either end. Priority two routes are those that have access to a toilet but not for all hours of the operating day. Priority three routes are those with a round trip greater than 150 minutes with toilet provision only at one end of the route.” Could you tell me, a) how frequently has TfL assessed the total route round trip time for priority three routes...

Bus driving training and tests (2)

  • Reference: 2025/3525
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
Thank you for your answer to my question 2025/2036 on the amount of training bus drivers receive from the bus operators both before becoming a driver and for Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Could you tell me: a) does Transport for London (TfL) conduct independent assessments of Bus Operators’ Training Programmes, and b) has TfL conducted independent assessments to determine if 35 hours of CPC training every five years is sufficient?

Funding for cycling training

  • Reference: 2025/3524
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
Could you tell me how much funding Transport for London (TfL) has provided for the teaching of cycling control skills and safe road riding to adults and children for the following financial years: 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25? Could you provide the information in table format for year, borough, amount of funding, number of hours of cycle instruction delivered to children and to adults, and pay rate for instructors?

Impact of DSEI arms fair on Silvertown Road Tunnel cross-river cycle-shuttle bus

  • Reference: 2025/3523
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
An impact of the increased traffic and resulting congestion from the September 2025 DSEI arms fair at ExCel London, was that bus drivers for the Silvertown Road Tunnel cross-river cycle-shuttle were unable to park at the City Hall end. This then affected their ability to use the toilets they have access to there, meaning drivers had to wait to use the toilets at the other end of the route. What measures did you take to assess how additional vehicles relating to the arms fair around ExCel would impact the Silvertown Road Tunnel cross-river cycle-shuttle and bus driver shifts?

TfL Station closures due to staff shortages

  • Reference: 2025/3522
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
A constituent has raised their frustration at the “repeated closure of Pimlico Underground Station on Thursday 26th, Friday 27th, and Saturday 28th June 2025 due to staff shortages.” Transport for London (TfL) has told me that: “there have been occasions recently where we have not had sufficient resources to keep Pimlico station open safely. We have been allocating resources from different parts of the network but this means there is a short period whereby staff need to receive the relevant training and familiarisation in order to run the station safely and confidently. We are confident this will bring back resilience...

Including disability within STATS19 data

  • Reference: 2025/3521
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
At the roundtable event that I held for the launch of my July 2025 report, Changing the Narrative: Ending the acceptance of road death in London, a key point raised by attendees was that disability is not one of the road safety statistics collected and published by Government, nor is it in the STATS19 data recorded by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) after a collision. Will you lobby the Government and the MPS to record and publish whether anyone killed or seriously injured in collisions is disabled?

Including the weight of cars in STATS19 data

  • Reference: 2025/3520
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
Vehicle information collected by Government includes weight, amongst other factors in the data, yet this is not included in the published road safety statistics, or in the STATS19 data gathered by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) after a collision. Recent research has shown that, when involved in a crash, the weight of a vehicle has an impact on whether people are killed and on the level of any serious injuries sustained [cross ref MQ 2025/1799]. Will you lobby the Government and the MPS to collect and publish data on the weight of vehicles involved in collisions, so the impact of...

Adverts for drones on the TfL network

  • Reference: 2025/3519
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
A constituent has shared with me their horror at seeing a BAE System advert for its military drones on the Transport for London (TfL) network, specifically at Westminster Tube station. Clearly, this advert is aimed at the politicians and civil servants working in and around the Houses of Parliament. Given the loss of life and injuries associated with military drones in conflicts in Ukraine, Russia, Iran, Israel, Gaza and elsewhere, what justification does TfL have for approving this advert?

Highway Code advertising campaign from TfL

  • Reference: 2025/3518
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 09 October 2025
I was pleased to see the advertising campaign from Transport for London (TfL) announced on 16 September 2025: TfL launches new poster campaign to raise awareness of Highway Code rules, helping to keep Londoners safe on the capital’s roads. However, I was disappointed to see the new campaign missed further opportunities to address road danger reduction, specifically these two rules which were introduced in 2022: Rule 163 on ‘close passing’, that drivers “leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking cyclists at speeds of up to 30mph, and give them more space when overtaking at higher speeds”, and Rule 66 that...
