Transport Strategy (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Finally, will you be hoping to see a commitment to workplace parking levies in the future Transport Strategy?

That would be after the election.

Transport Strategy (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
What other steps will you take to ensure consistency and proper integration with borough action plans on that?

Transport Strategy (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
One of the big concerns when the Transport Strategy was published was that it was not sufficiently robust on traffic reduction, particularly in outer London. In terms of a rewrite of the Transport Strategy, when that happens, what measures are you proposing to take a more robust approach to traffic reduction in the outer boroughs?

A406 (North Circular) (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Brian Coleman
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
I am grateful for your answer, Mr Kiley, even if you do not sound very enthusiastic about this highly important project for my constituents in Barnet, and indeed residents of Enfield and Haringey as well. Would you not therefore agree that the £27 million that TfL are proposing to spend tinkering at the edges, which has been overwhelmingly rejected by local residents, local MPs, and the local councils, is £27 million that could be better spent somewhere else?

  • Question by: Jennette Arnold OBE
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
I do not know if this links to what Brian is raising, but let me just raise a couple of points on behalf of the constituency member for Tottenham and Enfield, who I know you went out with and who I know raised a number of issues at the TfL board. She sadly cannot be with us today because of illness. I would like confirmation that the agreements made would be pursued; namely, that a sum of £100,000 has been set aside to support the four boroughs so that they can deal with traffic management, which is as important to...

I take it from that that you and your officers on TfL will now be enthusiastic advocates of the completion of the three sections of the North Circular Road that remain outstanding.

  • Question by: Brian Coleman
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Would this have not have been better decided before TfL took their board decision in March? Before that board meeting, TfL and the Mayor refused to meet either residents, MPs, or the local councils to discuss the matter. TfL took the decision. It was only when the London boroughs of Enfield and Barnet served them notice threatening judicial review that the Mayor agreed to hold a series of meetings, which he did two weeks ago. Would that whole exercise have not been better undertaken earlier in the year, to avoid not only unnecessary legal expense by the boroughs of Enfield...

London Undergrond Srikes (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: Samantha Heath
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Could I turn attention to the protection masters, a group of workers who do not work for LUL particularly but are subcontracted in a most peculiar way. They have no option but to work for one organisation, yet they do not know whether they will be working on any given day. Their terms and conditions seem pretty appalling, but the only thing they can do is work indirectly for you. Have you made it your business to check out the terms and conditions of subcontractors? How are you going to ensure that we have decent terms and conditions for all...
