Transfer of the Tube (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Come 15 July, when the transfer will take place, will you be able to announce to Londoners I do not want you to pre empt that by announcing it today, but it would be nice if you would the tangible ways in which the Tube will be better in the coming year? An electoral timetable is obviously a good benchmark for this. They will be non cosmetic changes, not just changed uniforms; they will be material changes in the quality of services, the frequency of trains, and the levels of crowding and you will set targets for that? Is that...

Transfer of the Tube (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
I would like to ask the 1 million euro question: are you able to tell us today that the Tube will be materially and recognisably different and better in July 2004 than in July 2003?

Transfer of the Tube (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Over the last three years we have seen the Mayor carrying out a number of scurrilous personal attacks against senior Underground staff. What have been the consequences of that and how are you going to patch up that relationship?

Transfer of the Tube (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Darren Johnson
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
Given the flawed nature of PPP which Bob has eloquently spoken on in the past, will negotiations with Government be continuing to ensure the best deal possible under an extremely flawed system? What continue to be your top demands in any ongoing negotiations?

Closed nature of TfL (Supplementary) [9]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
As a corporate issue, are you happy with the idea of divulging that more widely across the organisation?

Closed nature of TfL (Supplementary) [8]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
This could be viewed as a chattering classes issue at one level, but if you went around this table I think you would be hard pressed to find any Assembly Members who have not reached the conclusion that TfL is pretty closed in its dealings with us and with the public. It tends to give rather partial answers to questions when the questions are inconvenient to it. On your pay package for example, not wishing to get too embarrassing, but you are set performance targets are of great interest to all Londoners yet we have been repeatedly prevented from seeing...

Closed nature of TfL (Supplementary) [7]

  • Question by: John Biggs

Address that. Reassure Londoners that you are not closed; that you are open.

Closed nature of TfL (Supplementary) [6]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
But if we can move on to perhaps less of an introverted issue, the problem we have politically with TfL having this perceived closed culture is that it can create a culture of arrogance, if you like. We just touched on the Uxbridge Road tram issue, where Labour members strongly support the Uxbridge Road tram in principle, as long as you get the detail right. We are concerned that you are at risk of seizing defeat from the jaws of victory on that by having had an arrogant and aloof communications strategy. The problem we have is that the culture...

Closed nature of TfL (Supplementary) [5]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 11 June 2003
On the basis that it is quite helpful to start at the top, I take your confirmation that you are happy to disclose details about your own performance assessment and targets as a very welcome development.

And on the other question regarding arrangements with Derek Turner, around which we are having trouble getting information?
