Gaps in support for victims of hit and run

  • Reference: 2025/0786
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2025
Thank you for your answer to my oral question 2022/3899, in which you said: “let me take away what we can do in relation to additional support for hit and run. For the reasons you suggest, by inference they are a crime, and also they may not be serious in relation to a league table of crime, but they are serious to the families.” Could you tell me what additional support you have implemented specifically to support the victims of hit and run incidents, since we spoke about this in November 2022?

Transport for London (TfL) and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) have a target to increase their capacity to enforce up to one million speeding offences by 2024/25, through a combination of on‑street police enforcement and safety cameras. Are they on track to meet this target, and if not, how far off are they, what will be the new target and what further actions will you take to reduce the danger from speeding on London’s roads?

Thank you for your answer to my question 2024/3970, in which you said: “I am aware of the significant impact gambling addiction can have on the lives of individuals and their families. [...] This evidence base is necessary for Transport for London (TfL) to be able to further develop its policy and carry out engagement with a range of stakeholders ahead of any final decisions on restrictions being implemented.” I am aware that TfL is working with the GLA Health team to respond to the London Assembly Health Committee’s recommendations on gambling harms and will publish it soon. Thank you for your answer to my question MQ 2024/4034 in which you said: “I have asked Transport for London (TfL) to meet with C40 Cities to find out more about its implementation guide and be put in touch with other cities who have implemented a ban on high carbon advertising. I know TfL has already met with some of these cities, and has plans to speak to those who have the policy in place and are running advertisements on their networks in accordance with the policy, to see how this works in practice.” Could you provide me with an...

Deaths and injuries related to roadworks on TLRN

  • Reference: 2025/0781
  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2025
The 2018 Transport for London (TfL) report, Temporary Traffic Management handbook – people safe at roadworks, says: “Between 2005 and 2017, 99 people were killed or seriously injured in the vicinity of roadworks on the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN). While the works may not have been the direct cause of these tragedies, we know that unfamiliar road layouts, poorly signed diversions or a complete lack of cycling or footway provision heighten road risk.” Could you provide me with updated figures for fatalities and serious injuries in the vicinity of roadworks on the TLRN, and how do these figures...

  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2025
Constituents have raised queries with me about the paused plans for transforming the existing Stoke Newington gyratory into a two-way system. In your answer to question 2023/3042 you said: “TfL is working alongside the London Borough of Hackney to determine the best approach at this location and expects to recommence design work later this financial year.” Could you tell me where this work has got to and whether TfL will commit to conducting a new consultation, since it was last consulted upon in 2019?
