Operation Encompass notifications

  • Reference: 2025/2335
  • Question by: Zoë Garbett
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
Operation Encompass is an early intervention safeguarding partnership between education and the police in which police notify schools after a recorded domestic abuse incident where a child on the school’s roll was present. Litter on London waterways

  • Reference: 2025/2334
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
Constituents have written to me concerned that litter on waterways in London is not being dealt with, and believe that decisions by the Canal and Rivers Trust to remove bins has made the issue worse. Given your plan to clean up London’s waterways, would you support the provision of bins in well used blue spaces like canals, and better efforts to keep them clear of litter?

Aviation emissions breaking new records

  • Reference: 2025/2333
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
The latest update to Parliament from the Climate Change Committee says that aviation emissions have doubled since 1990, meaning aviation now causes more emissions than all electricity generation in the UK. The increase now means that emissions are higher than those suggested in the Government’s 2022 Jet Zero Strategy (JZS). Could you tell me how concerned you are by the increase in emissions from aviation, when every pathway needs them to at least plateau if not reduce, and what strategies for reducing aviation emissions from London airports are now urgent?

Redesigned flight paths over London

  • Reference: 2025/2332
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
The Government has announced a new UK Airspace Design Service (UKADS) to be fully operational by the end of 2025, and said that their initial focus will be on redesigning London’s airspace with a view to radical growth, which would result in an increase in climate emissions. Could you tell me how you and other GLA bodies will engage with this service, and what role you will undertake to represent Londoners with this new body?

Accuracy of ULEZ checker on specialist vehicles

  • Reference: 2025/2331
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
The Met Police have recently purchased new Sandcat armoured SUVs, however when the registration of one of these vehicles (LX25 AUP) is looked up on the Transport for London (TfL) ULEZ checker, the information supplied states that they are both diesel fuelled and have 0g/km emissions. Could you tell me if the Met Police have any documentation on the real-world emissions of these vehicles, and how TfL assesses the accuracy of data supplied into the ULEZ system for specialist vehicles such as these?

Pollarding of trees removing shade

  • Reference: 2025/2330
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
I have noticed that the pollarding of trees outside City Hall has removed much needed shade directly before a heatwave and a prolonged sunny period. This seems to be a pattern in other parts of London, where landowners are scheduling works without considering the benefits of tree canopy in enabling Londoners to cope better with hotter and sunnier weather. Could you tell me if the GLA and its arms-length bodies have any guidance on the timing of tree maintenance in areas where shade is otherwise unavailable, and if not if you plan to provide any?

London’s aquifer water resources

  • Reference: 2025/2329
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
Campaigners have raised concerns about the risk of pollution in the aquifers under London. What assessment do you have of the strategic risk to London from aquifer pollution, and what steps is your strategic work, in tandem with local councils and landowners taking to avoid the risks of contamination by forever chemicals and other pollutants?

Water Abstraction Licenses

  • Reference: 2025/2328
  • Question by: Zack Polanski
  • Meeting date: 11 July 2025
Campaigners have raised concerns about the lack of checks on water abstraction licences, with an officer saying to The Guardian that many licences go unchecked. Will you support a requirement to move to a regular inspection regime for all abstraction of water from sources of water that London depends on?
