I note the report in The Times on 15 January 2021 that nearly 150,000 DNA, fingerprint and arrest records have been wiped off the Police National Computer (PNC). ‘Sources said that more than 150,000 arrest records were accidentally deleted during a weekly “weeding” session to expunge data. Thousands of DNA and fingerprint records were also removed because the databases holding them were connected to the PNC, which is owned by the Home Office.’ 1 I am assuming that by now the Metropolitan Police has carried out a damage assessment.
