GLA Elections (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Graham Tope
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
The Mayor will be aware that the Government undertook a very considerable information exercise and concentrated quite a lot on postal and proxy voting and also on the experiment with early voting. Is the Mayor aware that many more voters spoiled their ballot papers in the Assembly election because they did not know how to use them, than actually voted by postal proxy and early voting together, and I wonder whether on reflection he feels that we will be able to do a lot better next time?

Cabinet (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Toby Harris
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
Could I ask in respect of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority whether the Mayor has engaged in consultations about individual names with the Fire Brigades Union?

Cabinet (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Toby Harris
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
Could I ask the Mayor if it would be helpful for there to be confirmatory hearings by Members of the Assembly to some of the key appointments, particularly in respect of the Board of Transport for London and the Board of the London Development Agency?

Financial Commitments (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
What I really had in mind was the public commitment that you had made to Wembley Stadium and Dagenham and I was concerned that this might prejudice the SRB6 Projects which boroughs have got in at the present time. May I be assured that your announcements will not prejudice any of the boroughs' applications?

GLA Offices (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Elizabeth Howlett
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
I welcome the statement you have made publicly with regard to the costs of housing yourself, your staff and the Assembly, and I wonder if you could elaborate whether you have had any firmer approaches from the owners of the building which is directly across from Westminster which you used to inhabit?

Car Usage (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
Can I ask you how you are going to measure those improvements in public transport?

Car Usage (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
You talk about improving public transport, and is it not important to do that before you envisage removing another option for people getting around London ie. their cars?

Wembley Stadium (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Richard Barnes
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
You must find it a comfort to have somebody from your GLC days within your cabinet. I know John McDonnell who is an MP for one of the constituencies in the borough that I lead: he is long on consultation and short on delivery. What gives you comfort that he will change?

Wembley Stadium (Supplementary) [1]

  • Question by: Richard Barnes
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
There are a number of SRB6s which are important to the particular areas and indeed Hayes and Harlington, John McDonnell's constituency, has a bid in itself. Does the Mayor envisage treating any others as exceptional cases and treating them in advance of the GLA's full powers?

The Euro (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Roger Evans
  • Meeting date: 24 May 2000
I think we are clear on where you and I stand on this, and obviously we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Would it not be useful for the Assembly to know what sort of contacts you have established with the Government nationally to press this case and if you have any help from them?
