River Transport (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Murad Qureshi
  • Meeting date: 18 November 2006
Simple as that. Well, the intriguing thing, actually, in the report is that Angie (Bray) is arguing for double the subsidy for river transport, further subsidy on double the subsidy for a passenger per journey. Are there other areas where you think similar levels of subsidies would be supported by the Tories?

That is true, and in some ways it has been superseded by the offer, and I am surprised we did not have more of that emphasised in the report.

What I was trying to get at was do many diplomats have foreign registered vehicles?

If they were willing to cough up, but under another name, would we not be willing just to take the money and use it?

This is a classic case, is it not, of one law for the powerful and another law for the poor? I have a paper here about one lady who inadvertently strayed into the zone, and the bailiffs impounded her car.

Is that your legal advice? The obvious thing is to take them to court.

That is a real incentive. You called the American Ambassador a crook. What about the ambassadors of the other embassies that owe substantial charges: Angola, Nigeria, Sudan, South Africa? Are they crooks also?

What I wanted to ask was at what point do we normally start taking away or removing cars? Now, I heard Jenny's [Jones] comments that we should start crushing them. I suspect that would probably mean we would get bombed, but at what stage would we start removing and taking away cars?
