Budget and Venues Update (Supplementary) [6]

  • Question by: Bob Blackman
  • Meeting date: 10 November 2007
Can I just ask Mary about the LDA's perspective. The Memorandum of Understanding has been renegotiated. We have heard the assurances today about budgets but we clearly do not know what the position will be when we get the final outturn on everything. Have you got any concerns that the Government might withdraw revenue for support grant, for example, from the GLA to compensate for any cost overruns?

You won't be working and planning on the Aquatics Centre alone. You are also looking at the other stadia as well. Are they also going through this natural growth process with the budget?

Just to be absolutely clear, the £1 billion, plus the inflation, will, in your view, not be exceeded in order to build these permanent and temporary facilities and to upgrade and to turn them into legacy mode, is that correct?

Mr Higgins, you just mentioned the site. You said it was 'highly contaminated'. Those were your words. Now, in marked contrast to your brochure of photographs here, I have got some photographs which actually show the contractors at work. They are digging up, if that is the right phrase, a whole lot of dust which is blowing over the surrounding countryside and the surrounding residential areas. If that site is highly contaminated, don't you think that enormous efforts should be made to damp down the dust and make sure that the dust does not go onto surrounding areas?

At the moment you are clearly on target. What extra sponsorship do you anticipate signing up in the next, say, 12 months?

My question is to Paul Deighton at LOCOG. We know the Chinese are going to be spending a fortune on the opening ceremony. How much are we actually spending on that?

There is a belief within the Metropolitan Police Authority that a substantial part of that £863 million is for the security of the delivery of the Games in 2012. I was asking what your security costs for the build phase are?

So you do not see that as a major risk in financial terms?

I was going to ask for slightly more than Geoff Pope has requested, which was if you can provide us, at the least, with a breakdown now of the transport costs which are, if you like, capital; the investment in the Jubilee Line upgrade and so on, and the revenue costs which relate to the operational matters that you have described?
