Hammersmith Bus Station

  • Reference: 2008/0133
  • Question by: Geoff Pope
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
The Hammersmith bus/tube interchange is one of the most vital and busiest in west London, and additional bus capacity is urgently needed. Why has the new low-level extension to the bus station been sitting finished but unopened for several months? Why has the northern bus ramp into the existing station been out of action for repair for over a month, causing massive congestion, but with little sign of any work being carried out? Are you confident the new level will be fully available from the latest reported opening date of 16th February?

The BBC reported on the 17th January allegations that someone was representing themselves during meetings in Nigeria as being from the GLA and speaking for your office. Your office has categorically said this is not true. Could you therefore tell me what steps you have taken to identify who this person is, to stop the misrepresentation, and what you have done to ensure anyone else party to the misrepresentation has no dealings with the GLA?

Are you satisfied that the money awarded to Newham for this specific purpose was properly applied to that purpose?

  • Question by: Geoff Pope
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Two viewing areas for disabled people were provided at the New Year fireworks, the main one being at Horse Guards with a restricted view but with giant screens. The closest station with wheelchair access was Westminster which was closed from 9pm. Wheelchair users do not wish to sit in the cold for several hours before the display. Can more sensible arrangements be made for wheelchair users next year?
