Homeless family placements in Barking and Dagenham

  • Reference: 2008/0146
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Several London Boroughs place homeless families in Barking and Dagenham. The relatively better supply of lower cost private homes to rent is the obvious reason why this happens. However, the practice breaches guidelines adopted by Councils, not least because it 'dumps' some homeless families needing support far away from the Council who should be providing that support, and presents challenges to services in Barking and Dagenhan. The suspicion persists that the practice is a useful way of off-loading challenging families. What does your draft housing policy say about this practice; would you agree that it should be discouraged; and what...

Buses at Dagenham Heathway

  • Reference: 2008/0145
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Will you please encourage TfL to urgently review the bus services serving Dagenham Heathway during the morning rush hour, with a view to increasing the frequency during this busy time of day. Residents have complained for some time about the infrequency and severe overcrowding on Route 174 towards Romford that prevents the bus from collecting more passengers at this location and beyond. A thorough review would also include Routes 173 and 175 that I have recently heard are also problematic for commuters waiting at Dagenham Heathway.

Countdown

  • Reference: 2008/0144
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Could bus shelters in East London be the first area of London to be installed with the new GPS countdown technology? East London was the last area of London on the roll out of the radio controlled countdown service and, as a consequence, did not get many shelters installed with the technology. Can the new roll out timetable prioritise East London to address the current imbalance?

Waiting rooms on the District Line

  • Reference: 2008/0142
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
What is the TfL policy for keeping open waiting rooms on outdoor platforms on the District Line? Notwithstanding problems TfL may encounter with vandalism, these waiting rooms provide shelter for passengers, particularly during the winter months. At what hours are the waiting rooms open on the outdoor platforms between Upton Park and Dagenham East on the District Line? Are there plans to increase these opening times?

AlertBox

  • Reference: 2008/0141
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
AlertBox, an "electronic Neighbourhood watch" using digital technology has been trialled in a few areas of London, with the cooperation of local Police Teams. What feedback is there that reduces crime and antisocial behaviour? Would you endorse the use of technology in more areas of the Capital?

  • Reference: 2008/0140
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
What plans do you have for the GLA family procurement from Remploy factories, in light of the recent Government announcement and suggestion that increased public sector procurement would help support the remaining factories?

  • Reference: 2008/0139
  • Question by: Graham Tope
  • Meeting date: 30 January 2008
Do you support me in opposing the Metropolitan Police's practice of charging Londoners to recover their stolen property?
