LGBTQ+ Venues

  • Reference: 2024/0919
  • Question by: Hina Bokhari OBE
  • Meeting date: 15 March 2024
The owner of Heaven nightclub, one of London’s most prominent LGBTQ+ venues, has warned that the nightclub is at risk as it battles skyrocketing rents. Over the last year, several other LGBTQ+ venues and safe spaces have also raised concerns they are being forced to consider shutting down by extortionate rent rises. This could mean the loss of important spaces where members of the LGBTQ+ community feel safe. What efforts have you made to ensure the future of London’s LGBTQ+ venues and how have you lobbied the Government on this issue?

Kremlin Linked Properties

  • Reference: 2024/0914
  • Question by: Hina Bokhari OBE
  • Meeting date: 15 March 2024
You recently stated that if the £1.1bn of property identified by Transparency International in 2022 as being bought by Russians accused of corruption or with links to the Kremlin could be sold, this would provide sufficient funding for over 4,000 low-cost homes. Should this happen and the assets were to be seized, wouldn’t a better use of the funds be to direct them straight to the Ukrainian war effort or towards the rebuilding of Ukraine?
