Body worn video on the transport system

  • Reference: 2025/4185
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 20 November 2025
I understand that Transport for West Midlands share body-worn video of those travellers who abuse and assault their staff, and who evade fares. The police then run these images through facial recognition software to identify perpetrators, who are often already known by or wanted by them. Is this practice also adopted by TfL and the British Transport Police/Metropolitan Police or are there any plans to do so? If this practice is already adopted, what have been the results?

Vaping on Public Transport

  • Reference: 2025/4184
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 20 November 2025
I have received a number of complaints from residents concerned that vaping on public transport, particularly the bus network, is increasing. What public information, such as posters and driver announcements, is being promoted by TfL to make this as unacceptable as smoking on the public transport system and to alert those vaping that it is not allowed and is anti-social.
