Vision Zero: Playing politics with TfL's Quarterly Bus Safety Performance Data

  • Reference: 2024/4349
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2024
Further to your responses to, inter alia, questions 2022/3462, 2022/2994, 2021/3885, 2021/1980, 2021/0559 and 2019/0145, the third quarter of 2024 ended on 30 September, yet TfL has not published any quarterly bus safety data on its website reflecting any incidents that have occurred after 30 June. Since the number of preventable bus safety deaths appears to have doubled this year, as TfL Chair, will you commit TfL to publishing its bus safety data within two weeks after each quarter's end?

Vision Zero: Further Details on 28 August 2023 Death of a Pedestrian in Bexley involving 229 Bus operated by Arriva.

  • Reference: 2024/4348
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2024
Earlier versions of TfL's ‘Quarterly Bus Safety Data’ published on TfL's website clearly reflect that a pedestrian was killed in a bus collision in Bexley involving a route 229 bus operated by Arriva on 28 August 2023, a fact confirmed by a number of press reports. Later versions of TfL's ‘Quarterly Bus Safety Data’ have removed the preventable bus safety incident from TfL's official record. Please will you provide me with an explanation of (a) the incident itself, (b) the decision to remove this incident from the public record and (c) the process by which such decisions are made?

Following up on your response to question 2024/345, why wasn't the Chief Operating Officer present at the 10 May 2024 meeting with the bus crash victims?

Vision Zero: The Significance of Fatal Bus Collisions on "private land"

  • Reference: 2024/4346
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2024
In your delayed response to question 2024/3450, you stated very clearly, "It is correct that five pedestrians (including one on private land) were fatally injured in collisions involving buses in the first quarter of 2024". What is the significance of a person being killed by a TfL bus on "private land" in terms of recognising it as a preventable bus safety incident under its watch?

Your "Apology" to a Bus Crash Victim's Family

  • Reference: 2024/4345
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 19 December 2024
In your delayed response to question 2024/3450, you stated, "In my role as Mayor of London and Chair of Transport for London (TfL), I extended my sincere apologies to the family of Melissa Burr for the way in which the communications were handled after her death." Yet, my question specifically referred to a 3 September BBC News report that alleged you had 'apologised' to the family of Kathleen Finnegan, killed on 29 January 2024 by an RATP Bus at Victoria Station. Am I to understand from your response to question 2024/3450 that you have not apologised to the Finnegan family...
