In a letter dated 23 December 2024 from the Minister of State for Policing, Fire and Crime Prevention to the Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, the Minister confirmed that shops and business are encouraged to send images they capture of criminals on CCTV to the police. These can then be searched against the police database using Retrospective Facial Recognition to try and identify the offender. Since the introduction of Retrospective Facial Recognition, how many requests has the Met Police received to identify an offender and how many offenders have been identified with this technology?
