At the London Assembly Transport Committee on 29 June 2022, TfL’s Head of Bus Business Development Tom Cunnington confirmed to the Transport Committee that TfL has no plans and no budget to add toilets to 175 bus routes lacking toilets at one end. Can you confirm Mr. Cunnington’s statement?

Appointment of TfL Safety Officer

  • Reference: 2023/2119
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
Given “more than 200 candidates” were considered for the role of TfL Commissioner, in retrospect do you regret that the successful candidate for the Chief Safety Officer [MN1] at TfL was the ‘sole applicant’ for a position that she was the “owner” of creating (as per questions 2022/0790 and 2021/2355), that she had not obtained—IOSH and NEBOSH accreditations as per question 2022/5360 and that she was ‘displaced’ and at risk of being made redundant at the time the Chief Safety Officer position was, as it appears, created for her—and by her— at TfL? (as per questions 2022/1637 and 2022/2991).

Recently, Unite’s London & Eastern branch commenced its “Too Hot Campaign” which asks London bus drivers to report high temperatures in their bus cabs. As a member of Unite and recipient of its funds for your Mayoral campaigns, do you support this reasonable campaign?

Independent Investigation of London Transport Workers Dying from Covid-19

  • Reference: 2023/2117
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
Further to question 2022/0511, I recently received correspondence from UCL’s President and Provost which confirmed that the ‘independent advice’ from University College London (UCL) Institute of Health Equity to which you referred in your response to question 2022/0511 was, apparently, delivered by a paid consultancy with inputs completely controlled by TfL. It therefore appears it was neither independent nor subject to the rigorous academic standards required of the independent investigation that I requested in May 2020. Based on UCL’s response, do you agree with me that it is reasonable to assume that UCL-IHE’s conclusions may not have been based on...

Distribution of PPE to TfL’s Dial-A-Ride Drivers on 9 April 2020

  • Reference: 2023/2116
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
During its paid consultancy with TfL for its Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies of bus driver deaths from Covid-19, was UCL-IHE ever informed of TfL’s 9 April 2020 decision to distribute PPE to TfL’s Dial-A-Ride Drivers?

Clusters of Bus Driver Covid-19 Deaths at Metroline and Tower Transit

  • Reference: 2023/2115
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
Following up on your response to questions 2022/0113, 2022/2989 and your statement in question 2023/0111 that “TfL is not aware of specific instances where a bus operator started then ceased to provide Covid-related PPE or started then ceased temperature testing during that time as a result of TfL advice”, can you assure me that, during the period January-May 2020, TfL received no communication from bus operators Metroline and Tower Transit based on practices being implemented in these companies’ owners’ countries (i.e., Singapore and Australia) but not in line with the then PHE advice, that these TfL bus contractors intended to...

Following up on your lack of answer to question 2022/5376, please can you provide me with (a) the exact terminus location and borough where the toilet at the end of each of these 175 bus routes is missing and, if relevant, (b) the starting date when bus drivers no longer had access to a toilet at this location?
