Since (a) TfL and First Group have already received the largest Health and Safety fine in history and (b) the Sandilands families may seek to overturn the Inquest Verdict of “Accidental Death”, will you instruct TfL to a) publish the redacted letter dated 24 January 2017 in response to a request from the RAIB for IA 16767 that TfL released in its response to question 2019/17340; and b) publish a link to the evidence TfL made available, in its response to 2019/17340 on the GLA’s Mayor’s Question Time website? Given this evidence has been published by a concerned member of...

TfL’s New Bus Safety Strategy

  • Reference: 2023/3631
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 12 October 2023
On 7 September, TfL announced a ‘bold new strategy for making buses safer’ which seems to me to essentially be a rebranding of the ‘world leading’ Bus Safety programme TfL announced in February 2016, the Vision Zero programme announced in July 2018 and the ‘world leading’ Bus Safety Standard announced in October 2018. What stood out most about this ‘new’ strategy is a chart on Page 19 which clearly evidences that the number of people killed or seriously injured from a bus safety incident has increased over your time as Mayor and we’re now back to where we were in...

Vision Zero: Refusal to Publish Prevention of Future Deaths Reports issued to TfL and Contractors

  • Reference: 2023/3630
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 12 October 2023
In your response to question 2023/3333, you stated, “As TfL explained when it wrote to you, due to the sensitivities with regard to the circumstances and families involved, it did not feel it was appropriate to publish these reports on its website. This continues to be TfL’s view.” Since, as you know from my questions 2020/3655 and 2020/4103, for years TfL regularly published statements about bus-related fatal incidents on its bus safety data releases before any Inquest was held, am I to assume that the sensitivities you’re concerned about are because, as you indicated in your response to question 2022/2981...
