But that wouldn't be on a borough basis, then?

Contacting the Police (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Jenny Jones
  • Meeting date: 13 November 2002
What about a pilot on email access for the same sort of non-emergency issue, because they don't actually have email in New York, and it occurs to me that it would actually improve things, or take pressure off the phone line?

Apparently it works extremely well in New York, although there is some confusion about what's an emergency line and what is non-emergency. It actually works extremely well and they swear by it.

TfL Budget (Supplementary) [7]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2002
As you answered that, it struck me that you must have learnt something while you were in Moscow about answering questions in an imaginative and thoughtful fashion that directs people away from the truth. But, then it struck me that you are the father and midwife of `spin" in the UK - you are superlatively brilliant at it - and I think you make Tony Blair look pretty poor in that respect. Would you describe the Board for Transport for London, which you referred to in the last question, as being open and accountable to the public?

Is it just a bit of wallpaper?

TfL Budget (Supplementary) [3]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2002
What about the board?

TfL Budget (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2002
I had to pinch myself as you answered that question, because it's the same Mayor who asked for another £125m from London's taxpayers, on top of the extra £300m you're getting for transport from the government this year. That does seem to be somewhat at odds with what you were arguing for less than two months ago, but then you are a very flexible fellow. Back to the question of the board at TfL. You're in charge of the board at TfL. Do you think it has the strength, the capacity, the independence and forcefulness to drive through its programme...
