Child Poverty Commission

  • Reference: 2007/2564
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
Do you welcome the Government's proposals to create a new child poverty unit? How will your Child Poverty Commission seek to work with the new unit?

Enfield and Haringey Skills and Training Opportunities

  • Reference: 2007/2563
  • Question by: Joanne McCartney
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
I welcome the Government's pledge of £5m additional investment to improve skills and training opportunities for Londoners ahead of the 2012 Olympics. As Chair of the London Skills Board, how will you ensure Enfield and Haringey residents, particularly areas with high levels of worklessness like Tottenham and Edmonton, benefit from this excellent funding package?

LEZ Effective dates

  • Reference: 2007/2562
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
I note that for many mini-buses the LEZ requirements will operate from October 2010, three years from now. While this will give time for many voluntary organisations with mini-buses to replace or modify their vehicles do you accept that for reasons of hardship some might not be able to? Can you suggest alternative ways forwards, such as an extended deadline, if it can be shown that a small number of such vehicles have not been replaced or made compliant by that time?

Taxis

  • Reference: 2007/2561
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
When do you use a taxi for official business?

City of London

  • Reference: 2007/2560
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
Do you share the view expressed by the Deputy Chair of the Assembly that the City of London Corporation should be abolished? Anachronistic as it is, is not the Corporation one of the UK's greatest survivors and can this not teach others about the art of politics?

LPG

  • Reference: 2007/2559
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
The suggested withdrawal of congestion charge exemption of LPG on carbon emission grounds is understandable but how do you respond to the arguments that as a fuel it is far cleaner than virtually all other hydrocarbons and so has a air quality benefit and that without productive alternative uses, much LPG is simply flared-off at well-heads with an obviously negative carbon emission

Wholesale Markets

  • Reference: 2007/2558
  • Question by: John Biggs
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
Do you believe the demand exists in London to support two combined wholesale markets?

Youth Offer

  • Reference: 2007/2557
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
At the last MQT you said that 'We are presently seeking views on the proposed criteria and priorities for allocation of the Youth Offer by 24 October 2007'. I believe that the Mayor's Youth Offer is potentially the most important social programme in London for a decade. What conclusions have you now drawn about the criteria and mechanisms for the use of this funding?

Violence in Lambeth and Southwark

  • Reference: 2007/2556
  • Question by: Valerie Shawcross
  • Meeting date: 14 November 2007
Why do you think that recorded violence went up in Lambeth and Southwark last year against the London wide trend, which is downwards? How would you suggest that this is tackled?
