Late last year, Sir Mark Rowley lamented the decline in stop and search due to what he described as “a growing crisis in confidence”, something he attributes in part to investigations by the Independent Office for Police Conduct. He said: “Officers should know that when they follow their training and act in good faith, that from their sergeant to their Commissioner they will be supported.” What action have you taken as London’s Police and Crime Commissioner to instil confidence in police officers conducting stop and search to let them know that they will be supported?
