Funding of Museums and Galleries

  • Reference: 2019/4002
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
London’s art and cultural venues like Museums and Galleries have seen reduction of 30% public funding. This together with reduction of support from Lottery Funds means London is lagging behind in its offer when compared to venues in other world cities. Tristram Hunt – Director of the V&A has called upon you to support hotel/tourist tax for overseas visitors, similar to the one levied in New York, to boost capacity of cultural venues as well as make London even a better tourist destination. Is this something you would consider?

Fewer than one in three young people with mental health condition get medical support. MIND and Royal College of Psychiatrists have called for this to double. Yet the NHS Long Term Plan avoids the question. Will you work with CAMHS to get a regional target?

  • Reference: 2019/3999
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
Following consultation, the government has put forward changes to fire safety regulation, including Approved Document B. Are these comprehensive enough, and what further changes need to be made in order to make Londoners feel safe in their own homes?

BSL Charter

  • Reference: 2019/3998
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
Thanks for your previous reply on this issue but concerns remain about the length of time for this to be addressed - is this usual? What are the barriers/ blockage that is causing the delays? May I please request an update, on behalf of Harrow & Brent United Deaf Club and the British Deaf Association, and a clear timescale of when we are expected to see results. Not just signing up but putting things into practice and what it means for Deaf Londoners?

Vision Zero Action Plan

  • Reference: 2019/3997
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
Your Vision Zero Action Plan is ‘impressive’ as my resident puts it. However, this particular resident is surprised and disappointed to see no mention made in your action plan to horse riders and drivers who are a particularly vulnerable group on the capital’s roads, and is interested to know why there is no mention of them in the plan?

Civil Orders & Knife Crime

  • Reference: 2019/3996
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
Are the asbo-style civil orders announced by the Home Secretary an answer to tackle knife crime? Is there enough capacity in the Met Police to enforce and monitor these?

Household /Residential Burglaries

  • Reference: 2019/3995
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
My casework is increasingly showing surge of serious residential burglaries, often targeted and involving break-ins when homes are occupied putting not only properties at risk but also people’s safety. It is clear the local police are very short of resources and can’t cope with the scale of incidents or offer the reassurance required by the victims. Is there a Londonwide strategy to effectively and rapidly decrease these so called ‘low level’ crime incidents so that people feel safe, and are safe, in their own homes?

Chamberlayne Road (Brent) Air Quality.

  • Reference: 2019/3994
  • Question by: Navin Shah
  • Meeting date: 25 February 2019
In response to my previous question about air quality at Chamberlayne Road in Brent, you referred to the positive changes being made to Transport for London's diesel buses and that all the buses using Chamberlayne Road now meet the "standard" set by TfL regarding bus emissions. However, there are concerns that this may not significantly reduce Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) levels along Chamberlayne Road, particularly around the Ark Franklin Academy which is one of the 50 schools identified as being one of the worst polluted schools on London's most polluted roads in the Mayor of London's Air Quality Audit of schools...

Federation of Master Builders (FMB) in their latest ‘State of Trade Survey’ shows growth in London’s construction industry held back in the final quarter of the 2018. Director of FMB London has called upon the ‘Government to rethink its calamitous post-Brexit immigration policy or else London’s construction sector will grind to a halt.’ Do you support this and how can you assist the SME sector/FMB to maintain growth?
