In their most recent report on child safeguarding in the Met, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services has stated that current wait times for forensic examination and digital devices is between 6-9 months after they have been submitted to one of the Met’s digital forensics hubs, with a current backlog of 1,277 submissions. How are you working with the Met and others to take the urgent action needed to reduce these backlogs?

The Met Police have accepted that vetting was not conducted correctly in the case of Wayne Couzens, the officer who brutally murdered Sarah Everard in March. In our exchange in July (MQT 2021/2211), when I raised numerous recent cases of serious officer misconduct, you committed to sharing with me the steps being taken to improve vetting in the Met. Will you now commit to working with the Met to urgently review vetting practices within the organisation, which have also recently been heavily criticised by the Daniel Morgan Independent Panel?
