Many people reported problems in receiving the test alert from the new Government Emergency Alerts service, particularly where they had poor reception on 4G and 5G. Given that a major worry in London is about surface water flooding basement flats, do you consider the system suitable for warnings to such properties, and what assessment will you and your officers be making of the lessons to be learned from the Government Emergency Alerts test?

Concerns have been raised for several years by nearby residents that development on the former Southall Gasworks site has released toxic chemicals into the local environment, which scientists at Imperial College London have recently started to examine. As the lead researcher Ian Mudway is looking to extend this research into the other gasworks sites across London, will you consider funding these studies? The Infrastructure Progress Review 2023 published by the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) says that, without long-term targets for flood resilience from the Government, policies and investment are unlikely to fully address flood risks.
