  • Reference: 2023/2114
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
Following up on your lack of answer to question 2022/5376, please can you provide me with (a) the exact terminus location and borough where the toilet at the end of each of these 175 bus routes is missing and, if relevant, (b) the starting date when bus drivers no longer had access to a toilet at this location?

Vision Zero: Ignorance about Implementation and Monitoring of Prevention of Future Deaths Report

  • Reference: 2023/2113
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
In your response to question 2022/2980, you stated: “Stagecoach was asked to consider the content and frequency of its driver training relating to the ferry lift switch. Additional guidance was incorporated into its training for all applicable vehicles based on the Wrightbus Technical Bulletin. Meeting minutes confirm Transport for London shared this information with the other London Bus operators around May 2016. However, due to system and personnel changes during the time that has elapsed, it has not been possible to retrieve a copy of what was shared.” How can we be assured that TfL is indeed monitoring the implementation...

Vision Zero: Failure to provide Prevention of Future Deaths Reports issued to TfL by Coroner’s Courts

  • Reference: 2023/2112
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
After 9 months, you have not provided the basic safety information I requested in questions 2022/2978 and 2022/2979. This suggests to me, that TfL does not consider that ‘Prevention of Future Deaths Reports’, issued to TfL by coroners’ courts, are relevant to the safe operation of its transport network. How do reconcile this with your Vision Zero programme?

GMB Union National Congress Motion on Toilet Dignity

  • Reference: 2023/2111
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
As a GMB Union Member, you will know that this union’s national congress recently approved a motion that states: “We call on congress to support a campaign for dignity in the toilet for all workplaces and public places to provide facilities fit for the 21st Century.” Do you support this motion? If so, how do you reconcile that with TfL’s long-standing policy – agreed with bus operators and Unite the Union – which has resulted in bus drivers not having access to toilets on at least 1 in 4 London bus routes?

Negligence and Toilet Priority Classification agreed between TfL, Unite the Union and its Bus Contractors

  • Reference: 2023/2110
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
In response to question 2023/1326, you admitted: (a) that TfL has no legal opinion which states that the 'priority classification’ for bus driver toilets fully satisfies the legal requirements of several laws which oblige the provision of toilet facilities for workers; and (b) that TfL has never conducted an HSE ‘Human Factors’ assessment of this 'priority classification’ which clearly states that ‘a maximum duration’ for a bus driver to be ‘without access to a toilet for 150 minutes’ is safe for bus drivers, passengers and road users? Do you agree that TfL’s, in my view, failure to resolve this matter...

Independent Investigation about longstanding problems of Faulty Air Conditioning in London Bus Cabs

  • Reference: 2023/2109
  • Question by: Keith Prince
  • Meeting date: 22 June 2023
In your response to question 2022/2993 you failed to explain the issues I raised, namely: (a) the reason for the persistence of bus drivers’ evidenced complaints about the lack of working air conditioning on London buses; and (b) your lack of acknowledgement there appears to be a systemic problem that requires your urgent intervention and regular monitoring. We are now in the eighth year of your Mayoralty and your term as TfL Chair. Instead of in my view, continually downplaying this longstanding Safety-Critical Failure that you have the powers to mitigate – but have in my view failed to do...
