A constituent has asked me whether Transport for London (TfL) uses ultraviolet (UV) light to improve cleanliness across its network. According to your responses to questions 2021/0940, 2021/3267 and 2021/5061, TfL invested in a pilot program of UV light sanitising units, with sampling being done by Imperial College. These results do not appear to have been published. Could you: a) publish these findings, b) tell me how many TfL stations are currently being cleaned by UV light, and c) tell if there are plans to expand or wind down UV light cleaning on the TfL network?

A constituent has contacted me about the frequent reminders to ‘hold the handrail’ on the London Underground and is concerned there does not appear to be an adequate cleaning regime for handrails. Could you provide me with a breakdown of the cleaning regime for both escalator and staircase handrails in all stations owned and managed by Transport for London (TfL), specifically including frequency, products used, and method?
