Congestion Charge Cameras (Supplementary) [4]

  • Question by: Angie Bray
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
): Can I ask whether the money that you have earmarked for upgrading these non existent cameras in the western extension is included in the cost that you put on extending the zone of £125 million, or is that over and above the £125 million?

So why the need to spend all this money then?

Congestion Charge Cameras (Supplementary) [2]

  • Question by: Angie Bray

That is not what you just said. In the answer written for you, which you gave to me, you said that this was for the western extension, and you are now saying it is for the existing. Which is it?

In fact, you were happy to give us some detail on that £34 million, which, at the time, in Bournemouth, when you were asked about it, you did not deny. You went on, at great length, to explain to us about the upgrading of the cameras - which, again, you did not specify were for the extension area only - in fact, you rather suggested they were upgrading cameras that already exist. You went on to say the decision was actually almost more important in the fight against terrorism on the streets of London than it actually was in the...

  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
Thank you very much for that. I wonder if you could expand precisely on what your views are. Do you believe that night flights should continue in any event?

Londoners will be relieved to hear that. Can I ask whether or not, since this actually affects many hundreds of thousands of Londoners, the GLA will be contributing to challenges to the Government on this policy?

  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
Well, indeed, that would make an article, I suppose, in The Londoner for all those people you have been telling us have withdrawal symptoms because they have not been receiving it over the past six months. Do you not think that it is reprehensible for the Government to have firstly challenged the human rights court decision, which you will recall said that everybody had the right to a decent night's sleep, and do you not think that, if you really were, from what you are saying on this particular issue, a true libertarian, believing that the rights of Londoners are...

European Social Forum (ESF) Conference (Supplementary) [25]

  • Question by: Bob Neill
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
I will resist the temptation to say what it means in English. The truth is, that the Forum is a political organisation which you have funded out of public money, is it not? It is not a social organisation at all.

European Social Forum (ESF) Conference (Supplementary) [24]

  • Question by: Bob Neill
  • Meeting date: 20 October 2004
You were quoted in The Guardian after the event referring to the European Social Forum in this way: 'As against some backward traditions in parts of the left, they positively celebrate and give voice to the diversity of the movement seeking alternatives to neo-liberalism.' Is that an accurate quote?
