West Cromwell Road Trees

  • Reference: 2025/1509
  • Question by: Gareth Roberts
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2025
I have been told that a number of trees were recently removed on West Cromwell Road outside a Tesco supermarket as part of a planning application which you approved. I understand that the trees were on land that would not be further developed, were healthy and in an area of London with a high level of air pollution. This has upset many local residents who have contacted their local Councillors. Why did you feel it necessary to approve the removal of these healthy trees?

It has been reported that a working group called the Joint Reform Team, which includes the National Police Chief’s Council, is drawing up proposals for a new national police body to lead on counter-terrorism policing. Permanent Facial Recognition Tech in Croydon

  • Reference: 2025/1506
  • Question by: Gareth Roberts
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2025
I understand that the Met Police is set to deploy permanent live facial recognition cameras on street furniture in Croydon from summer 2025. This would mean a significant change in the use of this type of technology which previously has only been used on a temporary basis. What community engagement has taken place to warrant such a decision in an area where the Black population is much higher than the London average? If this decision is implemented, will you put up permanent warning signage that facial recognition technology is in operation, similar to signs at temporary deployments?

Raid at Westminster Quaker Meeting House

  • Reference: 2025/1505
  • Question by: Gareth Roberts
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2025
A raid at the Westminster Quaker Meeting House on 27 March 2025 left many Quaker members in shock. During the forceful entry into the building, the door was damaged. I understand that a Quaker Elder was present in the building at the time and could have opened the door, which would have avoided damage to the building. Do you consider the raid on a Quaker building, a pacifist organisation, necessary to what was achieved? Will you offer to pay for the damages to the premises of the Westminster Quaker Meeting House?

Neighbourhood Policing – Bobbies on the Beat

  • Reference: 2025/1504
  • Question by: Gareth Roberts
  • Meeting date: 22 May 2025
A BBC report showed that the last time the Government published figures on police officers in neighbourhood roles (July 2024), the figure stood at 13,424. But after a data validation exercise, the amended figure was actually only 10,664 police officers in neighbourhood roles in England and Wales. When the Met Police performed this data validation exercise as per the request from the Government, what was the result and what does this mean for the number of neighbourhood police officers across London?

The Government provided an update to the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee confirming the framework against which it will measure police performance. For London, do you commit this to be publicly available for scrutiny?
