As part of the Government Spending Review, you have been instructed by the Minister for Transport to raise Transport for London (TfL) fares by the RPI rate of inflation plus one per cent in each of 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029. What analysis has TfL done to assess the way increasing fares impacts usage of the transport network, and is there a fares price point at which people will stop using public transport and switch to private motor vehicles, which may appear more affordable?

I appreciate the focus that Transport for London (TfL) is giving to working through the backlog of licence applications and renewals for private hire vehicle (PHV) drivers. However, I am still being contacted by drivers frustrated by a drip feed of requests from TfL for information and medical tests that delays the process and loses them money while they respond.
