Transcript of Agenda Item 3 - Question and Answer Session: Transport for London (Supplementary) [13]

  • Question by: Susan Hall
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Well done. You have just come in on time. Let us move on to Assembly Member Hall. Susan Hall AM: Lovely. Thank you. First of all, Commissioner, I grabbed you in the café again. I am sorry, but I must say, yes, maybe I should have put that better. I am so grateful. I asked you to look into the G1 bus, you have said you are going to. People of Wandsworth, people that use transport, Mr Mayor, in Wandsworth will be very, very grateful if you can address that situation, thank you very much...

  • Question by: Caroline Russell
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Assembly Member Russell. Caroline Russell AM: Thank you. I just wanted to come back quickly on the private hire data regulation point. I wanted to double-check that I did raise this with you in the Plenary last September. The fact that it seemed like a new thing to be taking away was just slightly worrying. I just wanted to reiterate the point that the data transparency gives you regulation, which is much stronger than a voluntary gentleman’s agreement type of oversight. Having that data gives transparency, not only in terms of how TfL can regulate...

  • Question by: Thomas Turrell
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Assembly Member Turrell. Thomas Turrell AM: Thank you, Chair. Good morning to the Mayor and the Commissioner. Mr Mayor, my questions are directed to you. The tolls at Blackwall and Silvertown have a built-in anti-Bexley bias with small businesses in Bexley unable to access discounts and drivers having to pay hundreds of pounds a year more than those in north London because of the uni-directional surcharge. Following the Government’s decision to now hike the Dartford crossing charges, will you address this by extending small business discounts into Bexley and scrapping the uni-directional surcharge?

  • Question by: Sem Moema
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Thank you. Assembly Member Moema. Sem Moema AM: Thank you, and good morning to both of you. My first question is to you, Mayor Khan, around the Bakerloo line extension. We have already heard today about the CSR and it delivering a multiyear settlement for TfL around capital investment so that we can replace Tube trains and buses, but unfortunately there were not any commitments to fund the Bakerloo line extension. I am just wondering if there are any alternatives that you are looking at in terms of funding mechanisms to build the extension.

  • Question by: Andrew Boff
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Assembly Member Boff. Andrew Boff AM (Deputy Chair): My question is for the Mayor. Will you agree with Marsha De Cordova MP [for Battersea], Dame Meg Hillier MP [for Hackney South and Shoreditch] and Daniel Francis MP [for Bexleyheath and Crayford], and pause the implementation of floating bus stops until new national guidance is published?

  • Question by: Krupesh Hirani
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Assembly Member Hirani, Assembly Member Boff and Assembly Member Moema. Krupesh Hirani AM: Thank you, Chair. Commissioner, you may have come across some social media posts or articles in the media where groups are taking it upon themselves to clear up graffiti on the Tube network. This is a particular problem on the Bakerloo and Central lines. Why has the amount of graffiti that we are seeing on these particular lines increased?

  • Question by: Neil Garratt
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Assembly Member Garratt. Neil Garratt AM: Mr Mayor, when you talk about the funding deal for TfL last year and also in the CSR, you always forget for some reason to mention that the Labour Government has imposed five years of cumulative inflation-busting fare rises on Londoners. Do you think Londoners can afford that?

  • Question by: Leonie Cooper
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): You might wish to write back to the Assembly Member with an answer to that and share it with the rest of the Assembly as well. I am sure we would be interested, but the Member is out of time. Can I ask Assembly Member Cooper? Léonie Cooper AM: Thank you very much, Chair. Good morning, Commissioner, and good morning, Mr Mayor. In fact, I wanted to ask about keeping passengers safe on the public transport system in relation to crime as well. Just picking up on what Assembly Member Wilson was just saying there...

  • Question by: Alex Wilson
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): OK, that begins the initial round of questioning. We will now open it up to other Assembly Members. Can I name the next three speakers, Assembly Member Wilson, Assembly Member Cooper, Assembly Member Garratt. We will take them in that order. Let us start with Assembly Member Wilson. Alex Wilson AM: Thank you, Chair. Can I take this opportunity to wish TfL a very happy birthday. Do not worry, I am not going to start singing because I do not think that would be fair to inflict on anybody. My first question is to Mr...

  • Question by: Hina Bokhari OBE
  • Meeting date: 03 July 2025
Len Duvall OBE AM (Chair): Assembly Member Bokhari. Hina Bokhari OBE AM: Thank you, Chair. This is a question for Andy first. I have received reports from a prominent trans rights campaigner, copied into an email to yourself and the Mayor, that the staff at TfL had been banned from displaying flags or lanyards in support of trans rights, specifically during Pride Month. Is this true?
