London Assembly looks at the Mayor's plans for London's future
The Mayor sets out in his draft London Plan, how London should grow and develop in the next 25 years. It is a spatial development strategy for the capital and it sets out how London should grow over the coming years, including where new homes, jobs and infrastructure should be delivered, and guides planning decisions across the city. Together, these decisions shape how our neighbourhoods function and how people experience the city in their daily lives.

We’re asking Londoners how they want London to grow and develop
The draft London Plan is currently out for public consultation. The Plan covers a wide range of issues, so several London Assembly committees will scrutinise different aspects of the Plan during the consultation period.
The London Assembly has a key and statutory role in scrutinising the Mayor's policies, examining whether they are supported by evidence, hearing directly from Londoners, experts and other stakeholders, and making recommendations to help strengthen the final Plan.
The Assembly's scrutiny is intended to ensure that the London Plan is as effective as possible in meeting London's long-term needs and the interests of London’s many and diverse communities.
Responding to the consultation process
The Assembly's scrutiny is separate from the Mayor's public consultation on the draft London Plan. The evidence gathered through the Assembly's committees will inform its recommendations to the Mayor, which will be published before the consultation closes.
Following their evidence sessions, each committee will publish its findings and make recommendations to the Mayor as a formal response to the consultation, which will draw on the evidence heard from experts, stakeholders and other witnesses.
This gives the Mayor the opportunity to consider these findings, evidence and feedback, alongside responses from other stakeholders when finalising the Plan.
There are other opportunities for the Assembly and stakeholders to scrutinise the London Plan before it is formally adopted. This includes a process known as the Examination in Public (EiP), a formal public inquiry process, led by a panel of independent inspectors.
The Assembly must also approve the final version of the London Plan before it can be published.

Calendar of meetings scrutinising the Mayor’s plans for London's future
The Assembly's formal meetings on the London Plan will be held in public at City Hall. The public are welcome to attend and watch from the audience, or on livestream.
