Overview
This Research Unit paper provides an explanation of the London Plan, what it is, and the process of developing it. The London Assembly has a key role to play in various stages of its production, scrutinising the Mayor’s plans, representing the voices of Londoners, and ultimately voting whether to accept the Plan before it is formally adopted.
This paper sets out the main stages of the London Assembly’s engagement with the development, scrutiny and adoption of the Plan, based on mapping the process of adopting the current 2021 London Plan.
With the publication of the new London Plan intended for 2028, the report provides an indicative timetable and summary of next steps for the Assembly to engage with and scrutinise the Plan. This includes a summary of Assembly Committees’ responses to the Mayor’s consultations on high level vision documents and draft plans for both the current and new Plans.
