The London Assembly Devolution Working Group:

  • Examines London’s current devolution settlement and powers.
  • Scrutinises any gaps and/or inconsistencies that have emerged in London’s devolution settlement that could be addressed through new Government policies or legislative action, and how further devolution to London should be balanced with appropriate scrutiny arrangements to ensure the Mayor of London is held properly to account.
  • Considers the aims of the Government’s devolution plans for Mayoral authorities and how they align with the GLA’s goals and aims and the GLA’s current powers and settlement.
  • Considers what London can learn from the powers and policy approaches adopted by other global city authorities.
  • Examines what powers Londoners would want the Mayor of London and the London Assembly to hold as part of a future devolution settlement.
  • Makes recommendations to the Mayor, Government and any other relevant parties in relation to devolution.
