Constituency: Ealing and Hillingdon

Biography
Bassam has lived in the constituency for over 40 years, having had to leave war-torn Lebanon as a child. He has been an Ealing Councillor since 2005, representing his hometown of Northolt and a cabinet member since 2010.
During that time, Bassam has been an advocate for social justice: championing accessibility on the tube, securing the installation of lifts at Greenford and Hanwell stations; introducing one of the most progressive council tax support schemes in the country and lifting thousands out of low pay onto the London Living Wage. On the environment, Bassam led Ealing to become one of the best recycling boroughs in London, ensured none of west London’s waste goes to landfill and launched the capital’s Roadmap to a Circular Economy.
Prior to becoming a London Assembly Member, Bassam ran a refugee charity in south-west London, which supported over 2,000 people a year. He also worked for a G15 housing association, leading on employability, digital inclusion, tackling health inequalities and advice services.
