Our report called for careers services to be improved in the capital as it revealed one in six jobs in London was unfilled because there was no-one with the right expertise to do the job.
Tailor-made: Improving adult careers services in London said the capital’s economy was being held back by the skills shortage and careers services in London were falling short particularly for people over 50, parents, women and those in low paid jobs.
We have received responses to our report from the London Enterprise Panel, the Minister for Skills, the Chair of the National Careers Council and Ofsted, all of which can be read in full below.

Research shows that nearly three times as many 50 plus workers wish to progress their careers than wind up for retirement and that 61 per cent of women said their career-based decisions had changed significantly since having children.
The report recommended more tailored support for people over 50, women and low paid workers. It also suggested the London Enterprise Panel and London government should have a clear role in shaping careers services in the capital to fully reflect the needs of Londoners, employers and the economy.
Other recommendations included: · more flexibility so services are able to deliver tailored services and have the most impact with limited resources; · improved access to local and up-to-date labour market information; · more co-ordinated employer engagement; and · greater transparency and enhanced inspections of careers services.
Attached below is the full report, a literature review commissioned as part of the investigation and a summary of evidence received.
