The Mayor set out plans to reduce inequalities in London in his 2018 Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, which came to the end of its lifespan in 2022.

A revised strategy and equality objectives were due to be published by June 2022, but these have been delayed multiple times. The strategy is now due to be published in early 2023.

The Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) Regulations 2011 require public authorities to publish equality objectives at least every four years. The Mayor published updated equality objectives in November 2022.

In addition, the Greater London Authority (GLA) has statutory duties to report annually on its equality work, under section 33 of the GLA Act 1999.

The Mayor's most recently published Annual Equality Report is for the period April 2019 to March 2020. The reports for 2020-21 and 2021-22 have not been published and these are also expected in early 2023.

Tomorrow, the GLA Oversight Committee will meet to consider how the Mayor is meeting his duties under the Equality Act through his Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. The guests are:

  • Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor for Communities and Social Justice

The meeting will take place on Thursday, 12 January from 2pm, in The Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
