London’s resilience
‘Resilience’ is the term used for the activities by government bodies and partners aimed at ensuring society can: “anticipate, assess, prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from natural hazards, deliberate attacks, geopolitical instability, disease outbreaks, and other disruptive events, civil emergencies or threats to our way of life.”1
For London, the Greater London Authority (GLA) chairs the London Resilience Forum and manages the London Resilience Unit. An updated London Resilience strategy was published earlier this year.2
Tomorrow, the GLA Oversight Committee will scrutinise these developments in the GLA’s resilience work for the city, including how the GLA engages with blue light services on resilience, and how it plans to ‘Place people at the heart of London’s resilience arrangements’3 and engage with Londoners to prepare them in the event of an emergency. It will also consider resilience to the risks against cyber security in London.
The guests are:
- Katherine Richardson, Director of Resilience, GLA
- Patrick Goulbourne, Assistant Commissioner, London Fire Brigade and Deputy Chair, London Resilience Forum
The meeting will take place on Thursday 23 October from 2pm, in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
