31 March 2023

Responding to the report on values and culture in fire and rescue services by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), Anne Clarke AM, Chair of the London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee, said:

The findings by the fire inspectorate are truly shocking.

“Dedicated firefighters do incredible work every day to keep us safe and for some to experience bullying and harassment from colleagues is completely unacceptable.

“We know that London is not exempt from these issues, following the shocking incidents of racism, sexism and discrimination uncovered by Nazir Afzal OBE in his culture review of the London Fire Brigade.

“We will continue to monitor and challenge the London Fire Commissioner and the Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience on the recommendations from the culture review.”
