Summary of request
Copy of request:
I would like to request information detailing per London borough in the year 20223/24:
- the number of police officers (not including office staff, PCSOs and MSCs) in London.
- population per officer in each London borough (e.g., in 2016/17 Havering had 674 residents per officer)
- the contribution of each borough to the MOPAC precept in the 2022/23 financial year and forecasts for the 24/25 financial year.
- Projected increases in police allocation per borough,
- And how the allocation of police officers per borough is decided, with an example please.
I would like this in a table form if you’re able.
Response:
I can confirm that the GLA holds some of the information you have requested.
Please see attached a table which details the police precept raised in respect of each London Borough for years 2022-23 to 2024-25 (budget).
It is important to understand that these payments do not form part of the London local authority budgets. London Boroughs are the billing authorities for council tax and business rates, and these payments represent the passporting of council tax income raised in respect of the policing element of the council tax precept. The taxbase refers to the billing authority’s estimate of the number of Band D equivalent properties on which council tax is charged.
The GLA does not hold any further information within the scope of your request.
