FOI - Money paid to and from GLA by London boroughs [Jan 2023]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA030123-6652

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

  1. How much have the London boroughs paid the GLA in the last 5 years by borough and by total for each year?
  2. What has each borough received financially each year over the same 5 year period?

Our response

The attached analysis sets out the cash the GLA has received from 2017-18 from each of the London boroughs through the Mayor’s council tax precept, under the business rates retention system, the business rates supplement and Mayor’s Community Infrastructure Levy used to fund the costs of the Crossrail project.

Each item of GLA Expenditure above £250 excluding VAT, which would include all payments made to London Boroughs since 2013-14, can be found here.

It is not possible to provide a detailed analysis of expenditure on projects delivered directly by the GLA by London borough as neither the GLA nor its functional bodies organise their service delivery on a borough basis. The GLA seeks to serve and support all Londoners equally on the basis of need and does not apply different policies depending on which borough they live in.
