Transport Committee responds to Crossrail’s finance agreement

City Hall
Created on
02 December 2020

Dr Alison Moore AM, Chair of the London Assembly Transport Committee, says:

"Whilst it is welcome that the Government is coming forward with the funds to help deliver Crossrail, Londoners may rightly be concerned that this comes in the form of a loan and that they will be left to pick up the considerable tab.

“Londoners have understandably been frustrated at the lengthy delays to Crossrail. It is welcome to see TfL now taking the reins, and this will allow us to keep up our scrutiny. What we are really keen to see is no further lengthy delays, but of course TfL has its work cut out, not least because the COVID-19 pandemic has set the project back quite significantly.

“What we need going forward is greater certainty over the funding of Crossrail so that Londoners aren’t landed with an increasingly hefty bill, and assurances that we’re not going to see the launch date for Crossrail pushed considerably further back once again.”
