Responding to the Walthamstow shopping centre fire, Chair of the Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee, Andrew Dismore AM, said:

“This morning, a fire broke out in a shopping centre in Walthamstow, East London. Over 125 firefighters bravely tackled the blaze while ensuring residents in the local community were safe.

“The London Fire Brigade’s response to the fire was nothing short of fantastic. In difficult circumstances they put the fire out, protected the community and brought normality back to the streets quickly.

“Firefighters are everyday heroes on our streets, who put the safety of others first and tackle dangerous situations. Incidents like this morning remind us how courageous and selfless they are, and we thank them for their bravery today.”
