Responding to the Mayor’s announcement at today’s Mayor’s Question Time that he will allocate extra funding towards tackling Female Genital Mutilation, London Assembly Member, Jennette Arnold AM said:
“I strongly welcome the Mayor’s announcement today that vital resource will be put in place to tackle FGM in our capital. I hope that a significant portion of any funding will go towards supporting the leading community activists who are working on the ground to confront this issue head-on.
“FGM is often a hidden crime and continues to blight our communities, so it is good to see that the Mayor has listened to my recommendations and stayed true to his commitment to raise awareness and take direct action to tackle it.
“I was also delighted to receive recognition from the Mayor for the work I have done to promote my campaign to make London a zero-cutting city.”
