Jennette Arnold OBE AM has been a member of the London Assembly since 2000. Initially a London-wide member, since 2004 Jennette has represented the North East London constituency of Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest. Jennette’s work focuses on the key strategic issues that impact directly on the lives of her constituents – improved transport services, crime reduction and affordable housing. She is also a champion in the fight against any form of injustice and discrimination.
Jennette continues to work hard in securing the promised legacy from the 2012 Games for local people - increased skills and employment together with the transformation of a part of London that was desolate and contaminated. She is an active supporter of the Justice4Jamie campaign which works on highlighting the devastating effects of knife crime, a governor of the UEL and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school in Islington, patron of the UK Association of Forensic Nursing and a council member of the Royal Court Theatre.
In 2012 she called for attention to be drawn on women who face sexual harassment on public transport and 2014 saw Jennette call a full investigation into claims of ‘stop and search’ targets that were being used by the Metropolitan Police. She continues to focus on police accountability; community relations; and increased support for the victims and witnesses of crime and has held the post of the Chair of the London Assembly during 2008/9, 2011/12 and 2012/13.
In 2010 Jennette was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list for her services to local government and the community of London.
Jennette Arnold was then re-elected in May 2016 as the London Assembly member for the North East constituency which includes Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest. She sits on as Chair of the Assembly’s Education panel and is also a member of London Assembly’s Environment and Health Committee and a patron of the British Caribbean Association as well as a keen supporter of Arsenal FC.
