Going green to bounce back from COVID-19

City Hall
Created on
23 February 2021

As COVID-19 vaccines are quickly being rolled out across the capital, how London recovers from the pandemic is on everyone’s minds.

The Mayor announced £10 million as part of his Green New Deal in November 2020. [1] The funding is said to be invested in green projects that will support 1,000 green jobs while tackling air pollution and climate change.

Tomorrow, the Environment Committee will discuss the current status of the 1,000 green job plan along with what London’s green recovery from COVID-19 should look like. The Committee will also discuss the progress made on the Mayor’s Environment Strategy as we near the end of his Mayoral term.

The guests are:

Panel A:

  • Jeanne Capey, London Regional Director, Environment Agency
  • Caterina Brandmayr, Head of Climate Policy, Green Alliance
  • Mayor Philip Glanville, Chair of Transport and Environment Committee, London Councils

Panel B:

  • Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment, GLA
  • Elliot Treharne, Interim Assistant Director for Environment and Energy, GLA
  • Peter Daw, Interim Assistant Director for Environment and Energy, GLA
  • Mayor Philip Glanville, Chair of Transport and Environment Committee, London Councils

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 24 February at 2 PM. In line with government advice, this meeting will take place virtually.
