Responding to an inspection of the London Fire Brigade by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), Anne Clarke AM, Chair of the London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee, said:
“The London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee welcomes the findings by HMICFRS and recognises it follows an extremely challenging week for the London Fire Brigade due to the heatwave.
“We are concerned about the areas for improvement identified in the report, particularly around behaviour inconsistent with the Brigade’s values. It is unacceptable that staff have described examples of discriminatory behaviour directed towards them or others.
“We will study the report in close detail and raise the causes for concern with the London Fire Commissioner during our regular scrutiny sessions with the London Fire Brigade.”
