The Code of Conduct of the Greater London Authority (GLA) sets out the standards of behaviour and conduct required of its members and how any breaches will be dealt with.
The Code applies to:
- the Mayor of London
- the Deputy Mayor of London
- the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
- Members of the London Assembly
- any independent person appointed by the Authority to assist with the discharge of the ethical standards functions.
These Members must comply with the GLA’s Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour and conduct required of these Members.
The Code is considered alongside the seven Principles of Public life (also known as the Nolan Principles), which are selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
- What does the GLA Code cover and not cover?
- What is done to ensure that members are adhering to the Code of Conduct?
- How does this compare with the staff code of ethics and standards?
- How has the Code of Conduct evolved over the last 20 years?
Tomorrow, the GLA Oversight Committee will investigate the strength of the GLA’s Code of Conduct, alongside consideration of other codes of conduct used in public bodies.
The guests are:
- Emma Strain, GLA Monitoring Officer, GLA
- Paul Hoey, Co-director, Hoey Ainscough Associates Ltd
- Jonathan Goolden, Wilkin Chapman
The meeting will take place on Thursday, 9 September 2021 from 2pm, in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
