Appallingly, over 50,000 phones got stolen on the streets of London last year. A major issue in reporting these crimes is a lack of sharing of information between BCUs within the Metropolitan Police. Different BCUs are often unable to communicate effectively between one another. Please can you update us on any work you are doing to improve communication between BCUs, particularly when it comes to mobile phone theft?

Late last year, Sir Mark Rowley lamented the decline in stop and search due to what he described as “a growing crisis in confidence”, something he attributes in part to investigations by the Independent Office for Police Conduct. He said: “Officers should know that when they follow their training and act in good faith, that from their sergeant to their Commissioner they will be supported.” What action have you taken as London’s Police and Crime Commissioner to instil confidence in police officers conducting stop and search to let them know that they will be supported?
